Driving directions from Puerto Plata Gregorio Luperón International Airport: Outside the airport, turn right and continue on the main highway, Carretera Sosúa Puerto Plata, through the town of Puerto Plata and straight on towards Carretera Santiago. Follow signs for Cofresi beach and the hotel.

Getting there: Choices are by taxi ($16–$25 fare) or rental car (more than $36). Fees subject to change without notice. Rental cars are available online.

Getting around: Guests can travel in the immediate area on complimentary bicycles from the hotel but walking to the town is not recommended. Because of the distance to Puerto Plata, taxis are the best way to get there and fare is in the $5–$15 range. Public buses leave from Puerto Plata to other towns in the region for fares of less than $5. Fees subject to change without notice. Otherwise, rental cars are necessary to find attractions and shopping/dining choices outside of the resort area.

Bamboo - Located under a large thatch-roof palapa, this ŕ la carte restaurant serves Chinese fare six nights a week. Reservations are required. Men are requested to wear long pants and sleeve-shirts.

Rose's - This intimate spot serves Italian specialties from an ŕ la carte menu six nights a week. Reservations are required. Men are requested to wear long pants and sleeve-shirts.

Hacienda Beach Club - Open in the afternoon for fast food such as burgers and hot dogs, this place also serves tea-time fare. It reopens from 11:30 PM to 1:30 AM with a snack-food buffet to satisfy midnight appetites.

Hurricane Disco - The resort's dance club rocks from 11 PM until 4 AM, but drinks are not part of the All-Inclusive Plan.

The resort's pool and lobby bars remain open until 11 PM.

Amenity highlights: The large main pool consists of two levels, includes a swim-up bar and a children's section, and is the focus of daytime activities such as water aerobics. Off to one side, a good-size "quiet pool" provides tranquil sunbathing on an expansive flagstone deck. The beach curves along a large bay that offers calm water for swimming and snorkeling.

Insider tip: As part of the All-Inclusive Plan, guests may eat and drink at restaurants and bars and use pools and other facilities at two sister resorts within strolling distance.
