    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: This family-friendly resort by Occidental, featuring 582 rooms, offers supervised children's activities and grownup attractions such as eight restaurants and tranquil sunning on the beach. The resort attracts an international clientele bent on tropical sun and fun.

Amenity highlights: The main, freeform pool includes a swim-up bar and offers sundeck thatched-roof palapas for shade. Another, smaller pool has a children's section. From the resort's buildings, a 30-yard stroll takes guests to an expansive beach, where the Atlantic rolls in gently. Under tropically appropriate palapas, revelers dance until 3 AM on a wood floor in an authentic, open-air disco with the sea as a backdrop.

Insider tip: A cool passage during the day, a paving-stone walkway under a closed canopy of arched trees offers a romantic stroll when softly illuminated after dark.

A large, airy tropical lobby with rattan furniture and ceiling fans greets guests at the 482-room resort. Lodging is in 16 three-story (no elevators) white buildings with red-tile roofs. Lawns, gardens, plazas, and streetlights create a tropical-village atmosphere. Day-and-night activities include shows in an open-air theater with covered seating. The resort purifies water but recommends drinking complimentary bottled water.
